Mike joined the Gibbs Group of Calhoun Companies in 2008 after an extensive background and experience in the private business environment including growing his own 3rd generation family foodservice equipment and design business, Palm Brothers, from $3M to $30M in 2000. During his tenure as President of Palm Brothers, he acquired 2 additional competitors to strategically increase its market share. He also assembled a national roll up of 6 other national family business distributorships to create a $200M national distribution company with offices in Ft Worth, San Antonio, Atlanta, Knoxville, Tampa and Minneapolis. Mike was awarded the Young Lion of the Year for his entrepreneurial accomplishments in the foodservice industry in 2000.

Since selling/rolling up his foodservice equipment distribution and design firm in 2000, Mike has purchased and/or formed several companies in the motel, truckstop and athletic facility market segments. Since 2000, Mike has financed, acquired and sold over $60M of his own businesses. This valuable first hand experience has provided him unique insights into the issues faced by business owners looking to purchase and/or sell in todays economy. He has served on the National Association of Truckstop Operators (NATSO). Mike also has purchased, remodeled and sold over 15 various residential properties in Edina and Lake Minnetonka suburbs.

Since joining Calhoun Companies, Mike has listed and/or sold a wide variety of businesses and his over 30 years of ownership, operations, acquisitions provide his clients with real life experience to provide necessary advisory during the buy or sale process.

Mike has 4 boys (including Michael Jr who works as an associate with him at Calhoun Companies, Trent who plays college hockey for the UMD Bulldogs, Chris and Ryan who are seniors in high school at Edina and Benilde) and has been married to wife, Shannon for 25 years and resides in Edina, MN. Mike has served on the Board of Directors of the Minneapolis South Young Life Youth Ministry Outreach.
